Re: Notification of NEU strike action: Tuesday 28th February
Dear Parents/Carers,
I wrote to you last month regarding the current round of strike action dates for teachers in the National Education Union (NEU). Thank you for your support on the first of these dates with our partial closure.
I am now writing to you to update you with plans for the next date, which is on Tuesday 28th February.
Due to the number of teachers eligible to take strike action we will be operating another partial opening day on this date.
Students in Years 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13 will work from home on Tuesday 28th February. Year 7 and Year 11 students should attend school as normal. Year 7 will be attending normal lessons. Year 11 will be in the middle of their mock exams, with a number of exams scheduled for this date so it is essential that all students in Year 11 attend. The Hive will be fully open and all students in the Hive should attend as normal.
If your child is in Years 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 and working at home for the day, but is in receipt of free school meals, then you can order a packed lunch which can be collected from reception between 12.00 and 12.30 on Tuesday 28th February. These packed lunches must be pre-ordered by 4pm on 24th February in order for our kitchen team to have time to purchase the necessary ingredients and make up the lunches. If you would like to order a packed lunch to be collected on the day, please email Gareth Glasby, our Academy Operations Manager, on gglasby@dret.co.uk stating: Name of child, Year group, and any dietary requirements.
If you are a critical worker and require a place for your child in Years 8-10 on the day then please email enquiries@havelockacademy.co.uk by 4pm on Friday 24th February stating your place of work, to book a place if your child is in Years 8-10 and provision cannot be made at home.
The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teachers’ pay and not because of any local issues at our academy.
If you have any questions at this stage, please contact us in the usual way by emailing enquiries@havelockacademy.co.uk .
Yours faithfully,
Emma Marshall
Principal
