Dear parents and carers,

I am writing to you to update you on some events that are coming up this term as well as some changes to our after school arrangements that will allow more students to be involved in after school activities and interventions.

Following the success of the Summer Activity Programme, I am delighted to share the news that the local authority have kindly agreed to fund two Christmas Activity Days during the holidays, one for Key Stage 3 (Wednesday 28th December) and one for Key Stage 4 (Thursday 29th December).  Students who are interested in attending can collect a letter and consent form from Student Services.  The closing date for signing up is Monday 28th November.  If we have more students than places, we will be prioritising places for those with the most reward points this term.  The days will include a trip to Parkway Cinema, breakfast and lunch in school, and a range of activities on site provided by Elsham Activity Centre.  They sound like fabulous days!

The end of term will also see a range of activities in school, with a charity Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 16th December, as well as our annual sponsored Santa Run in the afternoon.  Further details on this can be found by following this link: https://app.investmycommunity.com/campaigns/the-david-ross-education-trust-5304  At lunchtime on this date our kitchens will be serving a delicious Christmas Dinner.  On Monday 19th December we will break up for Christmas at 12.00, with our Christmas assemblies beforehand.

A little sooner than this, for parents and carers of Year 11 students, we have two dates coming up: Thursday 24th November at 5pm and 6pm is our Sixth Form Open Evening where students can find out more about the courses on offer at Havelock Sixth Form.  The following Thursday, on 1st December, we have our Year 11 Parents' Evening where all year 11 students and parents/carers should attend to find out more about the mock results and next steps in preparation for the summer exams.

From next Monday, 21st November, we have made some changes to our after school detention system, reducing the length of a single "C3" removal detention to 30 minutes.  This means students who receive a "C3" will stay for detention that day until 3.20pm.  If a student receives a second "C3" in the same day then they will stay for a full hour detention, finishing at 3.50pm.  This change will allow students who wish to attend after school clubs and interventions to attend at 3.20pm after the detention.

Please ensure that you have the "MCAS" (My Child at School app) so that you are receiving all notifications.  The app is a great way to track reward points and keep up to date with what is happening including notifications about events in the academy.  If you would like any help setting this up please call in at reception or email enquiries@havelockacademy.co.uk .

Thank you to all families for your support in our drive to further improve attendance.  We have seen our attendance rates rise from this time last year and we are keen for this to continue.  As our results showed last summer, when students are in school, they achieve well and leave with good results, especially when this is prolonged throughout their school career.  Please continue to arrange appointments outside of school time whenever possible and seek support from our attendance team if you have any concerns regarding attendance.

Thank you for all of your ongoing support.

Kind regards,

Emma Marshall
