Letter to Parents/Carers 09/03/2023

9th March 2023

Dear parents and carers,

Thank you for your support and understanding with the NEU strike days so far.  There are two further days next week, on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March.  If government/union talks take place in the meantime and there are any changes, we will notify you.

The academy will be open for Year 7 and Year 11 pupils, with all other year groups working at home.  Pupils working at home who are entitled to a free school meal can pre-order a packed lunch by emailing gglasby@dret.co.uk by 4pm on Monday 13th March, stating the pupils name and tutor group.  The packed lunches will be available for collection between 12 - 12.30pm on Wednesday 15th March from the school reception, with food provided to cover both days.

If any parents who fall into the critical worker category require a place for pupils in Years 8-10 they should email enquiries@havelockacademy.co.uk by 4pm on Monday 13th March, again stating the pupil name and tutor group, as well as the critical worker category they fall into.  As face to face classes are not happening for these year groups, students will be following the online or paper pack work that other students will be doing at home.

Some Year 10, 12 and 13 students may be invited into school directly by their teachers to complete coursework.  Where this is the case, you will be notified by the individual teacher or Head of Department concerned.  If you have not received such an invitation and your child is in Year 10, 12 or 13, then they should remain at home and follow the online learning (or work pack where requested) as directed by their teachers or Head of Year.

Thank you once again for your understanding and support.  As previously shared, these strikes are due to national issues and not specific to the academy.

Kind regards,

Emma Marshall
