Havelock Academy Summer School 2021
We ran a 5-day summer school which was offered to all our Year 7 and Year 8 students (2020 – 2021 year groups) over a 5-day period (7th to 11th August for Year 7 and 11th to 15th August for Year 8).
We had a total of 123 students’ book onto our summer school programme (59 on Year 8 dates and 64 on Year 7) including a small number of students from Year 9 who were offered a place due to individual circumstances.
We offered a range of educational activities including literacy, mathematics, science and humanities-based sessions alongside activities such as team building, communication, leadership and resilience within our programme. These were planned and delivered by subject specialists.
We offered two off-site day visits including a trip to Elsham Activity Centre and Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.
Students were provided with lunch, snacks and refreshments during their five-day programme and all provided with a personalised water bottle.
We incorporated within both year group summer schools, a one-day onsite activity with the Army Engagement Team. This included a presentation to raise career aspirations for our students by a former Havelock Academy student who has spent a number of years in the Army as well as a range of teambuilding tasks.
Feedback from students, carers & parents was overwhelmingly positive and we accumulated a short survey at the end of each summer school to gain feedback from the students who attended this provision.
