Changes to the use of free school meals allowance
Dear Families,
We will be trialling a change to how pupils’ free school meals allowance can be spent after half term, and I wanted to update you in advance.
The purpose of the free school meals allowance, as outlined in government guidelines, is to ensure that every child has access to a nutritious meal during the school day, and the trial is taking place as part of our commitment to ensuring this.
We want to encourage all our pupils to enjoy a balanced and nutritious meal, and we are planning to ensure that the free school meals allowance is used at lunch times only, rather than at break times. This is to avoid children spending their allowance at break time, leaving them without enough allowance for a full, healthy school lunch.
Snacks, including healthy snacks, will still be available at breaktime to purchase, but not as part of the free school meals allowance.
We will be starting this trial from Monday 3rd November 2025 and we encourage all students to ensure they spend their daily allocation on a warm, nutritious meal in the meantime.
