Year 9 Options is one of the most exciting times in your education as it gives you your first real opportunity to select some of the subjects that you will study for the next two years. It also marks the start of planning for your future; the decisions that you make now will have an impact on post 16 and career choices.

Core Subjects

All students will study the 5 Core (Compulsory) subjects listed below:

  • English Language
  • English Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Combined Science
  • Core PE

EBACC

 The Russell Group of top universities identified ‘facilitating subjects’ at A Level i.e. subjects which are most likely to be required or preferred for entry to degree courses and ones that will keep the most options open. These are:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences (Combined Science; Triple Science - Biology, Chemistry or Physics)
  • Geography and History
  • Languages (classical and modern)
  • Computer Science

Option Subjects

 In Year 10, in addition to the five Core (compulsory) subjects you will have the opportunity to study four other subjects these may include GCSE and/or BTEC qualifications.

 It is important to emphasise that our options process will follow a supportive ‘pathway’ approach. Each of you has been assigned to a specific options pathway and this has been designed to ensure that you select GCSE/BTEC qualification that maximise your future potential.
