Guidance for students, parents & carers and the Centre Policy

The JCQ have published a guide for students, parents and carers on the examination arrangements and this can be found here.

We have in place a Centre Policy for our Teacher Assessed Grades process. This can be accessed by clicking here.

Our Centre Policy should be read alongside our usual Non-Examinated Assessment (NEA) and vocational assessment policies. The Centre Policy provides an update to these policies for this summer's process. 

Concerns about results and appeals

When students receive their results, if they think that a grade is wrong their first step should be to speak to their Head of Year or any member of senior team for advice. 

Students should consider carefully if appealing is the right course of action. An appeal will only be successful if either an error is found or the grade awarded or the selection of evidence are found to be an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement. The exam boards will not be able to consider appeals that are based solely on differences of opinion. If students want to improve their grade they might want to consider entering for the autumn exam series. The JCQ have produced a support guide for students available here. 

Stage 1 Appeal

If a student thinks a grade is incorrect and an error has been made when they receive their results, they should speak to their Head of Year or any member of the Senior Team in the first instance. 

Students can request a centre review (Stage 1 Appeal, please complete the form below) – an internal review by the academy - so we can check for any errors. Students should be aware that on appeal, grades could go up, down, or stay the same and the exam board’s decision will be final.

Stage 2 Appeal

A stage 2 appeal cannot take place if a Stage 1 appeal hasn't been completed. If a student still thinks their grade is incorrect after the academy has checked it in a Stage 1 appeal, they can ask us to appeal to the exam board (Stage 2 Appeal, please complete form below). Students should be aware that on appeal, grades could go up, down, or stay the same and the exam board’s decision will be final.

Priority and non-priority appeals

There are priority and non-priority appeal routes. Priority appeals are only for students applying to higher education who did not attain their firm choice (i.e. the offer they accepted as their first choice) and wish to appeal an A level or other Level 3 qualification result. All other appeals must follow the non -priority route.

Exam certificates

Certificates, when received from the awarding organisations, will be available for collection from the academy. Notification that they are ready for collection will be published on our website here as well as being on our social media accounts. It is likely to be a few months between the results days and the certificates being available.
