The Academy Student Council

The Academy Council comprises students from across the age range who meet every Thursday after school to discuss issues raised by class representatives as well as members of staff. They are also consulted on proposals that affect students and their options are fed back to the Senior Leadership Team. They also play a key role in canvassing opinion from tutor groups. Recently they have discussed and reviewed topics such as:

The new building
The Academy's Mission Statement
Uniform changes
School meals
Improvements to the environment
Travel Plan
Bullying
Charity events
CfYP elections
Healthy eating
Rewards and sanctions

They also represent the Academy at conferences and CfYP meetings as well as being involved in tours of the Academy, interviews, meetings with the local authority and other local and national events.

Students are in the process of setting up committees to include more review of the curriculum, co-curriculum and other provision in the Academy on a more formal basis in conjunction with leaders in the Sixth Form who lead initiatives as part of their Community Engagement.
