Academy Specialisms
Havelock has a distinguished history as a school, serving generations of students as a grammar school, a comprehensive and now as an Academy. During that time it has developed a number of specialisms; the predecessor school having Engineering as a particular area of expertise.
The new Academy was designated a specialist in Mathematics and Computing. All eight major faculties play an important leading role in raising standards, aspiration and achievement. ICT acts as a unifying element and all subjects contribute to an approach to learning which emphasises the value of holistic and internationally-minded communication.
The Academy is also an Artsmark Award holder (2007) for its Performing Arts and a Centre of Excellence for ASDAN (Awards Scheme Development and Accreditation Network). Recognising that the needs of children and young people span the curriculum, these strengths are complemented by an innovatory modern foreign languages provision, and a fieldwork based humanities programme. The English Faculty drives standards at the heart of the curriculum and an inclusive, competitive PE Department completes the picture.
On the basis that secure, safe and happy young people will learn to thrive academically, the House system provides a unique pastoral vehicle for developing students' confidence in themselves and each other as they grow up.
