Havelock has a distinguished history as a school, serving generations of students as a grammar school, a comprehensive and now as an Academy. During that time it has developed a number of specialisms; the predecessor school having Engineering as a particular area of expertise.
The Academy is a Gold Artsmark Award holder for its Performing Arts and is a British Computer Society Approved Centre. Recognising that the needs of children and young people span the curriculum. The English Faculty drives standards at the heart of the curriculum and an inclusive, competitive PE Department completes the picture.
On the basis that secure, safe and happy young people will learn to thrive academically, the House system provides a unique pastoral vehicle for developing students' confidence in themselves and each other as they grow up.
The Academy seeks to build students' confidence in their capacity to learn, achieve academic success and develop skills.
The Academy has the following faculties. Please choose our curriculum link on the left for further detail of each of these and the curriculum content. The faculties are:
- IT and Computing
- Food Technology
- Performing Arts
- Physical Education
- RE and PSHE (Tutorial)
- Visual Arts
- Vocational Studies
The extra-curricular programme also contributes to academy life. Each student will have responsibility for helping to shape an individually tailored learning plan, supported by the House tutor and the guidance team.
The Academy seeks to employ the best qualified staff in all its teaching, training and support roles. The nature of its curriculum requires a significant investment in training and this extends to the pastoral base needed to support learning. The first and major pre-requisite for any member of staff at the Havelock Academy is that they care about and for the children for whom they are responsible.
