Success for the DRET All Stars on Tour

Over the Easter break, the DRET All Star Netball teams travelled to Wiltshire to take part in their annual netball tour at PGL Liddington, Swindon.

Havelock's only All Star netballer, Alicia Campbell, was joined by students from across the trust to make up the two U13 and U14 teams. Throughout the weekend the girls were able to make full use of the facilities at PGL Liddington, taking part in abseiling, rock climbing, problem solving, zip wires, trapezes and many more activities.

Full of enthusiasm after their previous successes against Fenland Netball Club, the DRET All Star teams were prepared for the tournament ahead and an amazing first day; winning six games, drawing one game and losing one game. The amazing performances by the two teams, in cold, wet and windy conditions, meant they both sailed through to their individual semi finals as winners of their groups.

Nerves were high ahead of the semi-final matches as both teams were playing tough opposition. Unfortunately the U13 team lost their semi-final game 6 - 4, however still finished in 3rd place overall in the tournament. The U14 team won their semi-final match 6 - 4 and progressed through to the final of the tournament; playing against a well-trained team they unfortunately lost this match, however coming 2nd position in their tournament was very impressive!

The tournament ended with an awards ceremony, where the U13 and U14 teams were presented with their bronze and silver medals. The successes at this tournament truly reflected how much the All Star Netballers have progressed as teams from the start of the year, playing against school teams who play together regularly, they really proved their talent and skill.

The weekend ended with a celebratory trip to Drayton Manor Theme Park which was the perfect ending to an amazing weekend of sport.

The tour was a huge success and a brilliant way to end a year of netball and the future looks very bright for these girls.
