Success for the DRET All-Star footballers on Tour!
Over the May bank holiday weekend, the DRET All-Star footballers travelled to Blackpool to take part in their annual football tournament.
The tour started with a trip to the National Football Museum in Manchester, where the boys took a tour of the memorabilla and then participated in some fun games. Team Havelock students also got the chance to have their pictures taken with the Premier League trophy. It was then onto Preston North End FC to train at their training ground and see what its like to be at a professional club.
Representing Havelock on the All-Star football tour were Ritchie Richardson, Billy Samuels & Joseph Hylton in the U13s, with Alfie Usher, James Bacon and Kain Stephenson in the U14s. They were joined by students from across the trust to make up the two U13 and U14 teams. Throughout the weekend the boys were able to make full use of the facilities at the hotel and explored Blackpool's seafront.
The U14s started the tournament off with a narrow 2-1 loss and then a great win, with Havelock's Alfie Usher scoring 2 goals in quick succession. Next up were the U13s who played their best football of the year and won their first match 8 - 0. They then followed this up with a 3 - 1 win in the second game and given themselves a great foundation to build on in day 2.
Unfortunately, the weather was extremely bad overnight and the second days matches were called off. The boy still got to play football as a 5 a-side tournament was organised and the students were able to play against ex Premier League footballer and current All-Stars U13s manager, Darren Purse.
The tournaments awards ceremony didn't happen but the teams were still able to meet and have their pictures taken with former Premier League footballer and current match of the day commentator, Kevin Kilbane.
The weekend ended with a celebratory trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, where the students were able to relax, have fun and bumped into current West Bromich Albions captain Darren Fletcher, which was the perfect ending to an amazing weekend of sport.
The boys have progressed massively over this year and their development makes the future of these teams an exciting prospect for all involved.
Huge congratulations to all Team Havelock students involved and thank you to the David Ross Education Trust for providing these incredible opportunities!
Bring on next year!
