Students celebrate International Women’s Day

Havelock students welcomed a number of inspirational women to the academy, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

The successful women, including a member of the armed forces, a STEM ambassador, a local nurse and a business extraordinaire, spoke to students about their careers and the challenges they have faced as females in the working world.

The special guests, who are all members of NELLIES (North East Lincolnshire Ladies Inspiring Everyday Success), shared their experiences with boys and girls from each year group to motivate them to follow their aspirations and continue working hard.

Students were also pleased to welcome the Deputy Chief Executive of North East Lincolnshire Council, Joanne Hewson, who spoke about her role as a female senior leader.

Wendy Jackson, Principal at Havelock Academy, spoke to students about the current number of female headteachers in England. Following the talks, she commented: “It was fascinating to see the amount of female, and male students, wanting to get involved in this significant event.

“I am so delighted with the amount of gratitude students have shown towards these inspirational women during their visit to the academy.“

Kate Lister Flower Design kindly provided flowers for each visitor, all with a purple theme to match the national campaign.
