Havelock Academy students enjoy opera project

Students from Havelock Academy enjoyed a two-day workshop with professionals from the Garsington Opera for All project.

With the help of composer Richard Taylor, students composed their own musical pieces to fit into scenes from Tchaikovsky's opera, Eugene Onegin.

Professional opera singers Rob Gildon and Belinda Evans performed alongside the students, as well as treating them to some stunning renditions of Tchaikovsky's music.

Maisie, a Year 11 student, said: "It was so inspiring to work alongside Belinda who has been in shows including ‘Phantom’ in the West End. I hope I can follow in her footsteps in the future!"

Lewis, a Sixth Form student, added: "I never thought I'd be singing opera alongside such amazing people. I didn't start singing until last year and it was scary at first, but we all helped each other and really grew in confidence over the two days.”

Wendy Jackson, Principal of Havelock Academy, commented: "It was a real pleasure to see the students taking part in such a fanastic project. I was particularly proud to see the students show of their hard work, performing at the Central Hall alongside students from other local schools and academies."
