Grimsby’s Havelock Academy achieves Quality in Careers Standard

Grimsby’s Havelock Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, has been awarded the Quality in Careers Standard.

The Quality in Careers Standard, a project led by Humber Local Enterprise Partnership, aims to improve access to careers information to raise aspirations and inform residents’ choice.

During an assessment day, the secondary school was evaluated against eight set criteria including leadership and management, evaluation and development, independent and impartial guidance, careers education and work-related learning.

Janet Hutchinson, Quality Standards Consultant at C&K Careers, was impressed with the academy’s enthusiasm for careers work. In particular, Janet commented on the range of activities that are on offer as a result of the school’s strong relationships with external partners and local employers.

She also noted the school’s commitment to raising students’ aspirations and recognised the ‘excellent’ strength of guidance provision.

Joanne Woodhouse, Associate Assistant Principal at Havelock Academy, leads on the careers provision at the school. She said: “At Havelock Academy, we are proud to offer a nationally recognised careers provision to help our students prepare for the next stage of their academic journeys. We are delighted to obtain the Quality in Careers Standard Award.”

Wendy Jackson, Principal at Havelock Academy, said: “I am thrilled to see that our staff have been recognised for their excellent work in providing our students with an outstanding careers education.

“Our students, staff and partners have been working extremely hard to prepare for this accolade, which has been an insightful and productive journey for our school to embark on.

“We would like to thank everyone involved in this project and we look forward to developing our careers provision further over the next academic year.”
