Library
The Library at Havelock benefits from stocking a wealth of diverse fiction and non-fiction texts; these range from classics such as Jane Austen's Persuasion to non-fiction resources like The Encyclopaedia Britannica. In addition to these traditional texts, there are magazines, journals and periodicals for students to explore other interests.
Students are encouraged to take an active part in the running of the library; they apply and are interviewed for the positions of assistant librarians. This role sees them assist the librarian in duties such as cataloguing, checking books out, organising displays and helping other students navigate their way around the library and its facilities.
The library provides a number of extra-curricular activities. BOBs (Bonkers Over Books) is a reading group where students come together to read and discuss contemporary and traditional literature; the homework club provides students with a facility to complete research tasks and ensure coursework and out of hours study is kept up to date. The library is an integral part of academy life; a hub for students where they feel safe, secure and valued as learners.
The Library aims to:
- support the curriculum of the Academy and respond quickly to curriculum development;
- enable students to be familiar with and confident in their ability to use information retrieval skills from a wide range of resources;
- encourage all students to work towards reaching their potential by helping them to become independent learners;
- develop the resources required to establish the international programme;
- provide and encourage all students' educational and recreational reading.
