Health and Welfare

Good Health is essential to support the academic attainment and confidence the Academy seeks to build in its students. Fundamental in establishing good health is good diet and Academy students are encouraged to think about what they eat, the importance of being well hydrated and of avoiding any kind of excess.

Physical exercise plays an important role in a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle and all students are encouraged to participate in physical activities. The Houses, in particular, promote exercise and healthy competition, to complement the work of the PE Department, but also to provide first class pastoral support for students.

The Academy has well defined procedures for dealing with issues arising from bullying, physical or sexual abuse, neglect and deprivation. While the Code of Conduct deals with the Academy's expectations of students, the most important principle governing these areas is that a child should have access to an adult he or she can trust and in whom they can confide. All welfare issues raised by a child are addressed from this point of contact.

The Academy works with a number of other local agencies in support of its students and the "Every Child Matters" initiative. These include:

Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

Multi-Agency Sexual Health (MASH)

North East Lincolnshire Council

North East Substance Team (NEST)

National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC)

Youth Inclusion Support Panel (YISP)

Young People's Support Service

Youth Offending Service
